Susan Joy Share makes trailblazing art. After 20 years as an artist in NYC, she moved to Anchorage, Alaska in 1998. Share employs techniques from hand bookbinding combined with painting, sewing and collage. Her work often incorporates pop-up and fold-out structures that embody play, ritual and humor.

While some of Share’s pieces are interactive, interwoven gems in and of themselves, others are animated in performance on stage. These lively objects, often puppet-like, surprise the viewer with their unexpected unfoldings.

Share exhibits, performs and teaches nationally and internationally. Her work is in permanent collections at the Anchorage Museum, AK; Victoria and Albert Museum, London; National Museum of Women in the Arts, DC; The Brooklyn Museum, NY; Center for Book Arts, NY, and in special collections libraries at Yale University, CT; Otis College of Art and Design, CA; Wesleyan University, CT and Savannah College of Art and Design, GA.
