Mark Rusk is an Alutiiq residing in California, but manages returning to Kodiak Island participating in Archaeological and Ethnographic research. He earned a B.A. in History from University of California At Berkeley and pursued graduate level education at Western Washington followed by Brown University in archaeology.

While focusing on Kodiak Island as an area of study, Mark has worked in the Aleutian Chain and the Alaska Peninsula. His first field work experience was in 1994 and he has been ‘playing in the dirt’ ever since. Mark has been a long-time member and supporter of the Alutiiq Museum’s archaeological research efforts. Recently, Mark has led a survey of Long Island as well as excavations on Woody Island, his tribal homeland.
